Brussels

A| final trip of the year. We made the decision to go to a Christmas market in Europe. When deciding where to go we looked for somewhere easy to get to. Eurostar to Brussels was what we came up with. So down to stay with Iain ion Peterborough making it easy to get to and from St Pancras. Thoroughly enjoyed the train ride, comfortable with a meal and small bottle of wine. Arrived in Brussels mid afternoon. 100 yards walk to Hotel. Settled in then out for a walk to find somewhere to eat. Had to go through a building site area but then into the centre and Tapas

The first whole day was spent going around central Brussels waiting for the Christmas market to open. visited Grand Place, cathedral, Royal Mall and a coffee shop. Street food for lunch, the enjoyed the Christmas market – extensive and very good atmosphere walking around both during the day and in the evening. Dinner this evening was in a Brazilian restaurant.

Second full day was a train trip to Ghent. What a super little place. even though it was misty we had a really good day. The castle audio guide was fabulous, witty and educational (National trust please visit). the small streets, old buildings and canals make it an attractive place. Dinner tonight in art-deco Belgian restaurant. Good food but a little below par service.

Final full day. Chocolate museum – not recommended. Better chocolates available in the many other shops. Walked round different areas of the centre finding more fantastic buildings and murals on the walls (see photos below for some of these). A relaxing place. Dinner in a small but superb restaurant, best saved till last.

Final day we walked around to a viewpoint then Eurostar back to St Pancras and packed train from Kings Cross to Peterborough.
