Drive down to stay in Mexborough for a few days. A strange place with little or nothing open. First day was spent in Doncaster. Cathedral small and shut ! Again not a lot there. Popped into Conisbrough castle and that was good. Some spectacular views from the top. Walk round nature reserve.
Stately home day. Wentworth castle in the morning and then on to Brodsworth hall (right) in the afternoon. Both had good gardens to walk through. Relaxing and interesting. Houses shut !
Visit to Elsecar heritage centre was final destination on this trip. An interesting place with workshops and galleries to go round. Being midweek there were some parts shut. Seems to be the theme for this trip. Called in at Fountains Abbey on way home – as good as usual with a long walk in the sunshine.
