Looking for somewhere to go for a long weekend we decided on Scotland and then Dundee. The lure of free breakfasts. Good journey there with a stop in Slekirk to see Susan and John – good coffee stop (with scones & cake). Had a recce round Dundee after check in. Fusion Tapas for meal !

Spent the day in Dundee rather than drive around. Musuem abour RSS Discovery was well organised and interesting. The ship is undergoing preservation work which was good to see happening. V & A Dundee was next. Interesting building with a couple of galleries about Scottish design that were educational. Wandered around the old dock area and through town centre to McManus museum for local area – pleasant galleries there. Then back to hotel via ‘comic’ and computer games statues. Next door to Japanese for tea.
Ride along to Broughty Ferry. What a lovely little place. A small but interesting castle, a fabulous beach to walk along, some proper independent shops which were busy and lots of cafes. Tried to go to Arbroath but the traffic jam due to roadworks was enormous so a walk round a countryside park wa a fitting substitute. Visited Dundee Law on the way back to hotel for some spectacular views across Forth of Tay. Turkish restaurant.

Glamis castle visit this morning. Guided tours only, but was done well with not too many mentions of Macbeth. The Gardens provided space for a good walk. This was followed up with a visit to the Botanic gardens. A relaxing end to the day. Tapas for tea.
Back home today. Time to call in at Scone palace on the way. Anothe interesting place with grounds to walk round. Didn’t stay as long as we would have due to rain (the only bad weather of the trip). Long journey back due to Edinburgh bypass and Angel roadworks
