Retirement holiday. Decided we wanted a bit of sun and a trip abroad. So taking a good friends recommendation (thanks Gordon) we jetted off to Spain.
Chose a hotel in Salou and had a good time. Not far from the centre and the beach. We walked along the coast in both directions for quite a way. The temperature was just right for this most of the time, otherwise we actually sat around the pool listening to the bingo in 3 languages ! Betweeen tnat and the entertainment at night it was very illuminating.

The bus service along the coastal strip was very good. Easy to find and they appeared to run on time. So we ventured to a few other places. Cambrils had a huge market and some of the fruit and food was superb. We walked back from here. Tarrgaona was a bit further away but an interesting place. A magnificent Roman amphitheatre and castle – some proper culture. They also had a market with songbirds for sale along the wide main street.
We ventured inland a couple of times. Firstly to Reus. Not a tourist spot but a lovely little town to walk around with some squares to sit and have coffee in see the picture to the right. Enjoyed seeing a ‘real’ place. If you want to watch the world go by have a visit.

Further away and an organised excursion was Montserrat. What a stunning place. A place of pilgrimage but also a tourist hot spot. Not overly commercialised and you are able to walk around easily and take a funicular railway up into the hills above the monastery for some wide ranging views. Recommended for a visit.
