Shrewsbury

First time away without feeling the need to have to get back home, so we had 5 nights away. Needed the change after a stressful start to the year. Why Shrewsbury? Well it was an area we hadn’t been to with plenty of places to go to, and the hotel was in the middle of the town. Called in Chester on the way down. Good walk around the city, we need to go and stay there.

Ironbridge gorge industrial museum visit. Lots to see but not as big as Beamish. Good history of the area and the guides were helpful. Moved on to see the Iron bridge. Spectacular setting and easy to see why it is a tourist destination. Called in Much Wenlock on way back to hotel.

Wroxeter Roman city visit. Not as good as I expected but Anne was impressed. The remaining piece of wall is big and the recreation of a house was good. Hope they develop the site further as it had potential. Next was Attingham Park, good walk around the grounds and then the house. Quick walk around Haughmond Abbey ruins. 3 different places all worth a visit.

Stokesay Castle. Small but a lovely visit. Then to Church Stretton and a walk in Carding Mill valley. Strenuous walk but worthwhile for tne views and the exercise. A good day.

Walk around Shrewsbury to see what was there. Very calming and some good architecture to see. Benthall hall visit. Small place but some interesting facts about the civil war. Called at Trafford Park on the way home – not very illuminating.
