Sorrento

Trip to Italy at last. Staying in Sorrento. Spent the first day looking around to get the feel of the place. A busy town full of tourists ! Some lovely small alleys behind the main street. A port and lots of little interesting shops and cafes. We had no trouble finding somewhere to eat, other than too much choice.

Second day we ‘did’ Pompeii. Took the Vesuviana to get there. Had a walking tour and then time on our own to wander. A hot day. Lots to see and we must have missed some parts out. Became an eventful day when Anne was overcome by the heat on the train on the way back to the hotel. Italian A & E then taxi back to the hotel.

After yesterdays adventure it was time for a chill day. Wandered into Sorrento for coffee and lunch then chilled by the pool. Back into Sorrento for pizza in the evening.

Road train on Friday. A visit to a couple of viewpoints and small villages. A local farm produce tasting including wine, then to a Limoncello producer and more tasting – all before noon. Entertaining driver and good rural area to see. Chilled after lunch.

Saturday. Boat trip to Positano. The boats ravel quickly, very deceptive when you are inside. Positano is very picturesque and on a steep hillside. Hot again so sat and had a leisurely lunch before the boat trip back to Sorrento.

Herculaneum. Went on an excursion to avoid the train. This was very different to Pompeii. Smaller more compact and easier to get around and see things. Guide was good. Interesting to see how deep the place was buried. Back to chill in the afternoon and prepare for flight home.

Time to kill before flight so had another wander around Sorrento with the inevitable coffee and cake. Going to miss the cake for breakfast. Pizza at the hotel then off to the airport. Long queue in hot terminal due to IT issues. Late flight back and we didn’t feel the earthquake in Naples.
