This has been our first foray abroad since 2016. Not sure why we chose here – possibly an easy to get to place where we wouldn’t need to think too much and could relax, walk eat and sleep. Haven’t done this as a day by day account, just a description of the place and what we enjoyed doing.
Stayed in a small place called Carvoeiro. What a good, accidental, choice. Not busy but active, plenty of places to eat. In fact we only walked more than 200 yards to eat on an evening once. That was because we liked the look of a tapas restaurant just off the right hand side of this picture. This shows the beach and a view up the main street.

This view is from the hotel room balcony as the sun was going down. Good holiday enjoyed the breakfast and the pool area was never too busy. We normally don’t lie around when on holidya but a couple of days were very hot so didn’t want to move around too much. Would go back here but next time probably hire a car to venture further afield.
One of the big attractions was the coastline. Superb cliff views. We walked along them a couple of times. The sea was blue and walks mostly quiet. Steep steps down to isolated beaches – but here was always a hut to get a drink ! Some lovely looking houses and apartment blocks.

Most memorale time was probably the boat trip along the coast. Fast open boat with only 8 people on it. Some of the views are outstanding. The picture to the left is of a famous cave that can only be accessed from the sea. There is a hole in the roof and the boat takes you in. WOW !!
Also ventured to a couple of other places. Portimao was apparently a busy resort but we obviously only got to the quiet part. It was too hot to keep walking to the sea front area so we had an ice cream. Also a short trip to Ferragudo (see right) a picturesque little village. Both places offered time to walk, places to sit and eat and see a different way of life.

Overall this was a fabulous week away. Not our usual holiday place (whatever that is now). If you want busy places with heaving bars and restaurants go somewhere else. For relaxation, a wide choice of restaurants within 400 metres of road then there is no better place. I can’t include all the photographs I took but there is a selection below.
