Only a couple of nights at the Northern end of Bassenthwaite but a good break
Set off early and broke the journey in Carlisle. Enjoyed the castle and lunch. Then on to Dodd wood for a ‘gentle’ walk that was steep in places but rewarding views at the top. Good sunshine all day. On to hotel and dinner.
Day 2 saw the weather deteriorate. Started witha trip into Keswick and a walk along the shores of Derwent water during a lull in the weather. Good lunch in small cafe. finsihed wandering around Keswick and went bck to hotel to keep out of rain. Great pub in the middle of nowhere for dinner – the Snooty fox.
Day 3 time to set off home. Had a walk in Whinlatter forest first then lunch in Penrith and a glorious drive back via Alston and Weardale.
